Throughout the years from 1978 to 2016, I explored various neighborhoods and cultural hubs within my hometown of Washington, DC, leveraging my expertise as a professional dance consultant. My experiences in these diverse areas have significantly shaped my understanding of the local dance scene and its evolution over the decades. However, since 2020, I have not been involved in providing services to the Malcolm X Drummers and Dancers, marking a notable shift in my professional engagements.

In June 2024, I took a significant step in my professional journey by launching both a branding blog and a dedicated professional dance consulting website. These platforms serve as a creative outlet for sharing my insights, experiences, and research findings with a broader audience. By establishing an online presence, I aim to engage with fellow dance enthusiasts and professionals, fostering a community that celebrates the richness of dance while promoting dialogue and collaboration within the field.

Memory of African Culture - Baba Djimo

When Baba Djimo created Memory of African Culture, " a cultural arts and education organization based in Washington, D.C. since 1983", I was 7 years old and a student at NationHouse. "Baba Djimo Kouyate, a jali, oral historian and 149th generation of the Kouyate family of jali, historians and musicians, died in Washington, DC, on August 1. He was 57. An outstanding musician and singer as well as a warm and generous individual, Kouyate introduced many people to the regal beauty of the music and histories maintained by the jalis of west Africa. Since moving to Washington, DC, in 1983, he co-founded and directed Memory of African Culture, Inc., a cultural arts and education organization. Kouyate led Mamaya African Jazz ensemble and served as an Adjunct Lecturer of African Music and Ethnomusicology at the University of Maryland.
