The theme of dance

Since 1997, I have incorporated the theme of dance into my abstract artwork. Since 1997, I have been fascinated by the idea of incorporating the theme of dance into my abstract artwork. One of the most prominent pieces in this series is "Dancing Fire 1," which explores the dynamic energy and movement of flames through swirling shapes and vibrant colors. The juxtaposition of the fiery reds and oranges with cool blues and greens creates a sense of balance and harmony, mirroring the fluidity and grace of a dancer in motion.

"Dancing Fire 1" represents a departure from my earlier works, which focused more on geometric shapes and patterns. Inspired by the rhythmic movements of dancers and the hypnotic flicker of flames, I sought to capture the essence of both in this piece. The result is a visually striking composition that conveys a sense of spontaneity and freedom, inviting viewers to interpret and experience the artwork in their own unique way.

The process of creating "Dancing Fire 1" was a deeply intuitive and experimental one. I embraced a more fluid and organic approach, allowing the paint and brush strokes to guide me as I worked. Memory of African Culture - Baba Djimo

When Baba Djimo created Memory of African Culture, " a cultural arts and education organization based in Washington, D.C. since 1983", I was 7 years old and a student at NationHouse. "Baba Djimo Kouyate, a jali, oral historian and 149th generation of the Kouyate family of jali, historians and musicians, died in Washington, DC, on August 1. He was 57. An outstanding musician and singer as well as a warm and generous individual, Kouyate introduced many people to the regal beauty of the music and histories maintained by the jalis of west Africa. Since moving to Washington, DC, in 1983, he co-founded and directed Memory of African Culture, Inc., a cultural arts and education organization. Kouyate led Mamaya African Jazz ensemble and served as an Adjunct Lecturer of African Music and Ethnomusicology at the University of Maryland.
